From $3.73

Red skinned peanuts are simply raw peanuts with the outer skin left on. Our red skinned peanuts are of the finest quality, are Australian grown and are super fresh, crunchy and delicious.

Interestingly, peanuts are actually not a nut but are classified as a legume, related to peas and beans.  The peanuts also grow underground, which is unusual for members of the legume family.

Peanuts have been harvested a long time with evidence of early cultivation of the pods in Peru over 7500 years ago.  Peanuts are now grown in many places in the world where there is sub-tropic or tropic weather and most peanuts grown in Australia are in Queensland, Northern Territory and Northern NSW.

The super fine red skin on natural peanuts called testa is often discarded, however it contains an important anti-oxidant called resveratrol. Studies shows that this cell-protecting anti-oxidant is also an anti-microbial, helping your immune system fight off unwanted microbes. Resveratrol is the famous anti-oxidant in red wine that has been used in anti-cancer and anti-aging research.

Peanuts are high in protein, fibre and healthy mono-unsaturated oils and have a range of health promoting nutrients such as copper, manganese and vitamin B3.  Copper is an essential mineral that is found throughout the body and used to make collagen, bone and red blood cells and it helps to support a healthy immune system. Manganese also helps to form collagen and bone as well as playing a role in blood sugar regulation.
