Organic Sorghum Flour

From $4.23

Sorghum is a grain belonging to the grass family. It originated in Southern Egypt, where its cultivation began at least 8.000 years ago. Sorghum is grown in the warmer climates around the world today. It tolerates drought and extreme heat well and it is often planted in dry, arid areas where other grains (such as corn) cannot survive.

Sorghum is similar to millet in that it has a simple flavour that goes well in combination with more flavoured foods such as vegetables, legumes or meat. It is rich in carbohydrates, moderate in protein, low in fat and is also a good source of dietary fibre. Sorghum is a great choice for those with gluten intolerance or coeliacs disease as it is another of our gluten free grain options.

Interesting Facts about Sorghum:

The name “sorghum” comes from the Italian word “sorgo” and in turn from Latin “Syricum (granum)” meaning “grain of Syria”.

Between 30 to 35 percent of domestic sorghum goes to ethanol production.
