Organic French Puy Lentils
From $4.73
French Puy Lentils – also known as “Lentilles Vertes du Puy” originated in the area of Le Puy en Velay, in the Auvergne region of France, around 2,000 years ago. This gourmet lentil is renowned worldwide for both its culinary and nutritive qualities. They are much smaller compared with other lentils, having a darker colouring of black with mottled green. Out of the lentil family, french puy lentils take the longest to cook (about 20-25 minutes), but maintain a firm texture after cooking that is perfect for using in salads and simple side dishes. Once cooked, you can freeze your Puy lentils for up to 3 months.
Our French Puy Lentils are grown in Canada and are naturally very tasty (needing little seasoning) and rich in vegetable proteins and fibre as well as the minerals magnesium, iron and copper.
Recipe Ideas:
Puy Lentils are a fantastic ingredient to throw into salads for additional protein and flavour. One of our favourite ways to eat puy lentils is a delicious Puy Lentil & Roast Pumpkin Salad.
They are also a great addition to soups, casseroles or a hearty dahl recipe.
Interesting Facts about French Puy Lentils:
Due to their nutritive qualities, many cooks and housewives in France largely use Puy lentils (or so-called “Poors’ caviar”) to complement their meat dishes rather than potatoes, rice or pastas.
