From $3.23

Organic Chana dahl is the baby organic chickpeas that have been split and polished. With a flavour and smell similar to that of sweet corn, chana dahl is a popular ingredient in Indian cuisine used in soups, salads, curries, dahls, savouries, sweets and rice dishes. As you can see, Chana dahl is quite versatile in the kitchen and great for the vegetarian and vegan diet.

Health Benefits of Chana dahl

Chana dahl is a rich source of digestive fibre and protein as well as a range of micronutrients including manganese, iron, folate, phosphorous and zinc.  The high fibre content helps to reduce high cholesterol in the body and with one of the lowest GI’s (glycemic index) of any food, chana dahl can help to manage diabetes and can reduce the risk of its onset by helping to stabalise blood sugar levels.

Cooking with Chana dahl

Chana dahl looks just like split yellow peas but they are actually very different. Chana dahl holds its shape very well in cooking, has a slightly sweet flavour and can substitute whole chickpeas in nearly any dish. They are a hearty and filling additive to soups, salads, tagines, vegetarian curries or casseroles. With all legumes, they are best soaked and chana dahl needs around 4 hours (in the fridge) and then rinsed well. To cook add one cup of chana dahl to 3 cups of water, bring to the boil then reduce to a simmer for about  15-20 minutes or until soft.
