Linseed Grain
From $2.98
Linseeds, also called flaxseeds are derived from the flax plant, which is one of the oldest cultivated crops on the planet. This plant was once thought to be a symbol of purity by the ancient Egyptians, and the long valued material Linen, derived from this plant, was used to wrap Egyptian mummies.
Linseeds are one of the most potent plant sources of the highly acclaimed Omega 3 fatty acids. These fats are known to greatly reduce inflammation in the body, improve cognitive function, support our immune system, joints and heart as well as help to reduce anxiety and depression.
These tiny and shiny brown or golden seeds are packed full of nutrients including B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, anti-oxidants and phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens can assist with menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes when it is due to low oestrogen or with PMS when it is due to high oestrogen.
There are many ways to include more linseeds into your diet. Try adding them to your salads, breads, smoothies and morning cereal. They can also be sprouted for a mildly spiced addition to your salad or to sprinkle on your cooked vegetables. When ground, they make a great egg replacement due to their mucilaginous (jelly-like) qualities when put in water. Simply add 1 tablespoon of the ground linseeds to 3 tablespoons of water and mix well, this will replace one egg in a recipe.
