Dark Brown Sugar

From $2.48

Dark brown sugar has a higher molasses content then regular brown sugar with a rich and distinctive flavour. It is deal for puddings, fruitcakes, gingerbread and chocolate cakes (on the sweet front), and is also great to add to homemade BBQ sauce, marinades, pickles and chutneys.

Dark brown sugar when used in baking gives cookies, cakes and puddings a darker colouring then compared with those baked with white or lighter brown sugar.

Did you know that:

Brown sugar is the earliest recorded sugar used. It has been grown all over the world, and reached a popularity peak in the 1700s. It was originally eaten as an unfinished form of refined sugar, however these days it is made by adding molasses to white sugar (for better consistency). It has almost identical food properties to white sugar, but adds a molasses-like flavor (and darker colouring) to foods.
