Our Organic Black Ceylon Tea is grown and harvested in Sri Lanka and is the Orange Pekoe variety. Orange Pekoe is a classification of black tea based on the size of the leaf and the location it sits on the plant. To be classified as Orange Pekoe, the tea must be composed entirely of new flushes ( a flush being a leaf bud plucked with two of the youngest leaves).

Orange Pekoe Tea is considered the highest quality black tea with a delicious flavour and smooth aftertaste.

Interesting Fact about Orange Pekoe Tea

The Orange Pekoe Tea doesn’t have an orange flavour at all. The word ‘orange’ in the name is said to come from the Dutch East India Company. In the 1600’s, the company brought teas to Europe with the best of the black teas being reserved for the royal family of which the Dutch royal family was known as the House of Orange.  When it was later introduced to the public, it was referred to as ‘orange’ pekoe due to its association with royalty.
