Whole Blanched Almonds
From $6.48
Almonds are a popular nut as they have a delicate flavour and a whole range of health benefits. Our whole blanched almonds have a very similar nutrient content to raw almonds but have had the skins removed with hot water. This process reduces the flavenoid (anti-oxidant) content slightly as they are contained in the skin.
The almond tree originated in the middle east and soon spread as far as North Africa and India. The almond tree produces a fruit that contains the drupe, which is what we know of as the almond. A drupe may appear to look like a nut but it is not, therefore in botanical terms, almonds aren’t a true nut. Almonds are grown across the world with America being the greatest producer, followed by Australia and Spain.
Like raw almonds, blanched almonds are alkalising, which means they are gentle on your body and they are a good source of magnesium, calcium and iron. Almonds are high in protein and may play an important role in preventing colon cancer due to their high fibre levels. These almonds are also high in vitamin E, a fat-soluble vitamin that helps to nourish the skin and can slow down aging. Blanched almonds are a great source of mono-unsaturated fats that help to reduce high cholesterol, potentially lower your risk for cardiovascular disease and help your body maintain balanced blood sugar levels.
Whole blanched almonds are often used in cooking, adding a delicious flavour, texture and nutrients to any meal. Try adding to salads, curries, or sweet baking and they make a tasty addition puddings and crumbles. Almonds are also great eaten on their own or combine with dried fruit, flaked coconut and other nuts or seeds for a nutrient dense, filling snack.
