Xanthan gum is natural gluten free thickener produced from the fermentation of sugars from corn, wheat or soy. It is widely used as a thickening and stabilizing agent in a variety of industrial foods.

Xanthan gum has many uses and is found in a wide variety of products including cosmetics, baked goods and pastry fillings, ice-cream, sherbet, jams, jellies, sauces, toothpaste, lotions, medicines, puddings, salad dressings and yoghurts.

It can also be also used as an egg substitute in vegan foods with the number E415 in the ingredients list, or in gluten free bread as it provides a stickiness similar to gluten.

Facts about Xanthan Gum:

There is a little controversy about the safety of consuming xanthan gum however it is generally agreed upon within the scientific community that it is safe to consume up to 15 grams per day.

Note that for people with digestive issues, it is not advised due to its laxative effect.
